Jesse is passionate about providing services to people who are looking to move forward through challenging circumstances in their lives. In collaboration with A Resilient Mind, he offers counselling, consultation and training.
Jesse studied Health Psychology before becoming a Registered Counselling Psychologist and his most recent further education has been a (third) MSc in Obesity Risks and Prevention, strenthening his understanding of the link between food and mental health.
He has worked with individual clients as well as leading psychoeducational and therapeutic groups within the private sector for many years and is skilled in delivering training around mental health, resilience, effective communication and dispute resolution, and coaching both individuals and teams.
Jesse has a particular interest and expertise in the topic of sleep and works with clients to combat issues they may be facing in this respect. He focuses on the triggers that keep the brain on guard and subsequently effect the quality of sleep, and works with clients to help make adjustments in their environment and routine in preparation for sleep, as well as delivering psychoeducation to increase understanding of the circadian rhythm and how it can become dysregulated. This education can further allow the client to improve their sleep by knowing what is best to avoid or implement as well as learn cognitive behavioural interventions to combat the underlying distress.
Jesse’s holistic approach to health is underpinned by cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) approaches and his extensive psychology training allows him to offer great understanding and insight into underlying psychological processes that may be contributing to the challenges faced by a client.
He works in a way that focuses on a collaborative relationship with his clients in order to help them find practical solutions and empower them to move forward. He coaches clients to be able to take responsibility for their own lives and reduce their habits of dependence on others to provide direction or reassurance. His coaching style involves asking the right questions to help clients reach their own solutions, rather than making decisions for them. This approach has seen his clients’ self-confidence flourish.
‘I have a strong belief that the journey to well-being comes from an integration of work on both mind and body with good nutrition, social connections and a life where your values are your compass and your sense of meaning and purpose are your map.’
